![]() Only hitting BBs for 3500 damage a salvo so nothing spectacular there. Her trajectory and shell speed is nice but I can't seem to penetrate anything. I'm not sure why everybody is amazed with her guns. Have 8 games so far in the Hipper and I think I might have 2 citadels and 6 losses. Even then, constantly dying from citadels from BBs across the map is not very fun. Either spam weak HE from long range and ballistic missile trajectories or get up and close with the AP and torpedoes. It suffers however when focused on or in a 1 on 1 angled situation. With the right aim you can really do a number to the enemy cruiser fleet and can do surprising amounts of damage to BB's if you sling the AP into the superstructure or upper belt line just below the deck. Well compared to most other cruisers at this tier as well. The shell speed and dispersion are dang good compared to the Yorck. Smacking those who show broadsides unawares of you staring at them. I've gotten a number of IJN and Russian cruisers unawares as they've been turning from other threats and coming right into broadside. Is the cruiser turning? Does he have a torp spread coming at him that will mean he's taking evasive action and will give me a broadside? Have I dropped out of detection range long enough that the enemy might not be sure where I am? Just because you're loaded doesn't mean you have to fire, hold the shot, try to anticipate and send the salvo when it's advantageous to you. The biggest thing so far I've found is don't push your shots. I try to target enemy cruisers primarily, the DD's when they're lit up and then the unawares BB's who don't have their guns facing me. ![]() Preferably I want the DD's in front of me, an armored cruiser behind the DDs, then me. I run concealment mod on mine and use it as a 2nd line ship. (not that one should aim to use torps primarily, I made bad choices that one that got me to either angle and close to the BB or turn away and risk a broadside to said BB at 11km )Īs someone who grind thru Yorck, the simplest different i can state is I played yorck for close range fighting, while Hipper is always best at farther ranges. ![]() With good angling and wiggling, I manage to survive close range fire from enemy battleships long enough to launch torps. I usually wiggle to get all guns firing before quickly angling to reduce profile again. I had two Hipper matches in a row that my first salvo in each match starts with a citadel hit on enemy cruiser.įor defensive, the armor is decent enough though hardly inspiring. But enemy cruisers are her choice targets. When fighting against battleships, I find that staying at long range will usually afford you enough time to turn and evade as soon as you see them firing, With very fast turret traverse and and good reload speed, it's easy to realign guns and start firing. The guns on this ship are simply wonderful, I can hit destroyers much further than when using most other cruisers. Just had my first Kraken achievement in the Hipper.
